When it comes to online dating, there are a few things the owners of these sites should take into consideration. Aesthetics are quite important, probably the most important factor one should take into consideration when developing a dating site, but there are a few other factors like the all important usability factor. Before I delve into those factors and declare the winning site of this top ten aesthetically pleasing dating sites, I’ll give you the top 10 list below. In the end you be the judge and feel free to leave your views in the comments below.

aesthetically-pleasingOne of the judgement values going into this top 10 list is whether or not the dating site looks like a blog. If it does, it didn’t make the list. Sorry guys, but a dating site definitely shouldn’t look like a blog, even though it may have one.

Another factor that went into the judgement process with respect to aesthetics,

So without further ado, here is the list of the top 10 dating sites that are quite aesthetically pleasing – let the games begin:

MeetMyMatch.ca

MeetMyMatch was the slowest loading website out of the bunch.

Unfortunately the entire session timed out and no data was able to be obtained from the site and so they are out of the race. Sorry MeetMyMatch.

Update: MeetMyMatch finally loaded and it seems a tad trustworthy but it lacks that drive to interest. There seems to be a banner at the bottom listing some members, but the whole design is a little bleak.

One final downside is that you can’t view profiles unless you sign up.

That may seem like a good idea to force registrations, but in the end, they’re not as qualified as you’d like them to be.

DesireMyHeart.com

DesireMyHeart pulled it off that’s for sure.

From a conversion marketing point of view, they’ve got it somewhat down pat as they display a sign up button that stands right out, and opens in a lightbox. The problem with DesireMyHeart is that it looks and acts too much like a blog.

You have to remember people who join dating sites don’t care to read your About information.

What they do care about is messaging that hot or interesting guy and girl.

Their registration page is too long and generally speaking, the design is a little weak. Let’s move on.

HowAboutWe.com

HowAboutWe wasn’t too bad at the outset. Once you arrive there you’re greeted with a full page layout, that seems professional and has a message – “why don’t we meet off line” – good call to action right from the get go.

Their home page is long, attractive, impressive and convincing.

The problem is, there’s no where to go and no profiles to see unless you sign up. You know my stance on force registrations to view profiles.

Chemistry.com

You’d think that a dating site with an ever so coveted domain name “chemistry”, (and a .com to boot), would be able to better put it together.

Now, they have displayed the right “trust” icons, and the display of a semi-attractive girl in the middle of home page does keep the user around for a few minutes but the big problem with Chemistry.com is that you cannot view profiles, even before a search.

EliteSingles.ca

EliteSingles had the same type of layout as HowAboutWe – they use attractive models as their hero images and boast security and university memberships.

Also like HowAboutWe, EliteSingles forces the user to register before being able to view profiles.

When it comes to online dating my advice is to stray from this practice. There’s nothing better than being able to browse profiles before you register.

SpicyMeetings.com

The look of SpicyMeetings is something to talk about and talk about attractive.

Right on the home page are a great looking couple holding each other with the gorgeous brunette staring at the user. The theme almost screams “sign up!” but that is the problem, in order to get anywhere with this dating site, you have to register first.

As mentioned elsewhere in this article, that is a big no-no. I must say that that great looking couple almost enticed me to sign up but I remembered one thing; the name – spicy single – spicy denotes hotness, high-end attractiveness, but the question is, who determines who’s spicy and who’s not?

And does spicy mean they have a lot of money? That couple on the home page looks pretty wealthy but I think anyone can sign up, wealthy or hot or not.

uMeet.ca

uMeet tries to pull off what SpicyMeetings and a few of the other website above try to put off.

The problem is (besides forcing you to sign up in order to view members, their theme is dry and bland.

One could almost safely assume this is a copy and paste theme with a switch-up-the-home-page-image set.

Personally if I had just landed on this page, I think I would hit the back button.

LetsMeetUp.com

At first LetsMeetUp seems like a decent dating site but their design is lacking.

It’s rather amateur and it does seem like a copy and paste dating script.

They also have a set of what seems to be clickable profile images, but sadly and again, you have to register before you can view them.

NoStringsDating.net

NoStringsDating looks good right off the hop!

Their domain name get’s to the point (no strings attached) and they don’t invent any bragging rights (see SpicyMeetings above).

Straight to the point if you join this dating site, you’re there without any strings, let’s move on. I have to give this website credit for one because of the great layout and colours, and also for the amount of information they give to their users concerning date – even right up to warning about fake profiles.

The only downfall for this website, once again comes from a usability stand-point – you have to register before you view profiles.

To be honest with you though, out of all the dating sites so far, NoStringsDating seems like the most interesting to join.

NativeCrush.com

Native Crush was definitely straight to the point and their design layout totally aligned with their theme with nice, soft but strong red accents.

It also seems there’s much more to do on this site rather than signing up.

You can actually view profiles and browse members!

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be a large number of profiles on the site, but if I were looking to join a dating site, Native Crush would certainly keep me looking around.

Is OasisCrush mobile friendly? Yes

Please note that by the time you read this article, some of the sites that aren’t mobile responsive, may have updated their software.

And the winner is?

So who is the winner? Which dating site did we judge as being the top aesthetically pleasing and user friendly dating site? Native Crush.

The user experience we encountered on this site was just great simply because we weren’t stuck on the home page and nor were we forced to sign up to view profiles.

Obviously messaging members is a different story and signing up is in order, but being able to actually browse a dating site for free was a great experience.

The take home? Other dating sites should open their doors or risk losing their customer base.

The less an “outside” user gets to see a profile, then the less the inside user gets seen and the potential for being messaged by and outside (potential user) is quite low. Take the advice.
